Enlisting and Providing Support
The resources and information I am seeking are questions related about childhood obesity. Are you implementing ways to reduce childhood obesity in the classroom or in the weekly lesson plan? Do you have accurate websites that I can review? What strategies would you use to help families understand that childhood obesity is a health problem? Do you know any city or countries that are implementing a plan about childhood obesity in school?
The resources I have fond helpful and insightful about my advocacy plan are the Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago Children (CLOCC) and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The reason I believe these two resources are helpful for my advocacy plan is because these organizations believe in making a difference in early childhood education. The Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago Children (CLOCC) is an organization that is a nationally recognized childhood obesity prevention program. The mission of this program is to confront the childhood obesity epidemic by promoting healthy and active lifestyles for children throughout the Chicago metropolitan area. Since 2002 the consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago Children has built a vital, broad-based of thousands of participants and organizations. They have over 3,000 participants and they are representing over 1,200 organizations.
The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is a part of the Smart School Snack a Comprehensive Preschool Education program. The Smart School Snack was design to inform early childhood teachers, children, and families about the foundation of healthy eating. The Smart School Snack learning environment includes establishing healthy independent eating habits, hand washing, appropriate food portion, social eating skills, self-monitoring and self-skill. The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) also follows the NAEYC Chicago -Nutritional Lesson Plan which is the menu for the early childhood education. The menu includes breakfast, lunch, and snack. Each meal is measure according to the child age.

Hello Lupe
ReplyDeleteI know that most of the Public Schools are aware of children to be obesity. Therefore they are feeding the children with adequate meals. At Marquette School they are now implementing Healthy meals and exercising or having physical movement twice a week. Years back the CPS has cut out physical education but Hooray physical movenment and eating healthy is back. Grandcrossing in the South Side Located On 72nd St. there is a program where young children plant their own fruits and vegetables. The children become involve in harvest and making a variety of dishes made with the crop they planted. I strongly agree if we get the children to participate they will take the opportunity to make and eat what they planted. There are many programs through parks, clinic and fitness centers for young children. But I also think that you should provide a specialist on obesity and how they could educate the parents as well. We as educators could impliment a lesson throughout the school year, with aerobics, having healthy food experiences and motivating children to use outdoor equipment. Good Luck Lupe
I am glad to hear that some schools are having healthy meals and implementing physical activities. I have observed some of the schools and day care centers and the are not implemented either or. I think that involving children in planting fruit and vegetables is a great because they would see the entire progress and learn about their benefits. I am going to have a nutritionist who will be available to talk to parents about obesity.
ReplyDeleteLupe,
ReplyDeleteI know that public schools have been enforcing physical education more and cutting down on fatty foods in the lunchroom. The center where I work implements a healthy meal. The milk we give is skim milk and we follow a schedule on the meals we give each day. The food we give during breakfast, lunch, and snack time contain fruit, vegetables and the necessary ingredients in the food pyramid. We are a healthy eating center that advocates child obesity in the meals by serving food that only benefits a child's health.
Lupe, also NCLR(National Consul of la Raza) provided a training for some agencies in regards to educate the public in respect of eating correct portions and eating healthy. "Comiendo Rico Y Sano".The agency I work for provides free workshops to other agencies. their goal is to reach to 500 people. I believe it is important to educate our parents because they are ones feeding their cildren.
ReplyDeleteHi Lupe,
ReplyDeleteI will like to thank you for supporting my dreams and continue my education. I really appreciated for the effort you input in order for me to continue... thanks for the opportunity. We finally did it... and awaiting for more goals to achieve.. thanks
